YW CALGARY CELEBRATES WOMEN
CALGARY, March 8, 2019 – Today, on International Women’s Day, YW Calgary is proud to host an evening reception to honour women of all ages and bring awareness to the issues of pay equity and gender equality at its 6th annual YW CELEBRATE event.
More than 250 women and men will gather tonight at The Bow in downtown Calgary to recognize and honour the achievements of women in our community, support women to find suitable employment opportunities.
“Now more than ever, we need outspoken voices speaking up and speaking out for women’s safety, social and economic rights which help remove barriers and create a brighter future for women and girls,” says Jan Damery, Vice President Resource Development, YW Calgary. “Tonight we come together to honour and celebrate the many incredible women in our communities and inspire generations to come.”
With Calgary ranked among the worst cities to be a woman in Canada and the Global Gender Gap Report telling us gender parity is more than 200 years away if we continue on our current path, there has never been a more critical time to speak up and act to create an equitable future for all women and girls.
Tonight YW CELEBRATE guests will hear from powerful female voices and celebrate their achievement through stories and conversation. Additionally, the Calgary Tower and Reconciliation (Langevin) Bridge will shine pink in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Funds raised from the event will enable YW Calgary to provide programs and services that support women to secure and maintain sustainable employment through the YW Women’s Employment Resource Centre.
