Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey to speak at YW Calgary’s YWHISPER Fundraising Gala

Calgary, October 8, 2019 – YW Calgary is pleased to announce the guest speakers for the 9th annual YWHISPER Fundraising Gala on March 4, 2020, are Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalists     Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey.

In 2017, these New York Times journalists and best selling authors broke the story of Harvey Weinstein’s decades of alleged sexual harassment and abuse towards women. Their book, “She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement,” includes a firsthand account of their investigation into the Weinstein case and how this was instrumental in the shaping of the #MeToo movement. Their story will also be turned into a major motion picture.

“This past year has seen many speaking up and out in support of women. Jodi and Megan have launched a worldwide conversation that we all need to be a part of,” says Shaun Richards, YW Calgary YWHISPER Gala Taskforce Chair. “We need to change our culture and society, and make conscious decisions to call out the structures that have kept women silent. The #MeToo movement has created an environment of opportunity, where women feel safe coming forward with their stories.”

The YWHISPER Gala is a YW Calgary signature fundraising event. Funds raised at this highly-anticipated event support programs and services to help women and their families thrive in the community, while advocating for women’s safety, social and economic rights.

Previous YWHISPER Gala’s have regaled sold-out audiences with keynote messages from speakers including Terry Crews, Erin Brockovich, Martin Luther King III and Naomi Judd.

Early bird tickets for the 9th annual YWHISPER Fundraising Gala are available at a discounted price of $325 per ticket until November 30, 2019. Sponsorship packages are available and help ensure the annual YWHISPER Gala continues to raise awareness and funding so women can thrive in Calgary.
