The Vermilion Energy/YWCA Employment Resource Centre (ERC) provides services for unemployed or underemployed women who need help to develop or enhance their employability. Some of the services offered include individual and group workshops, which help vulnerable women build life skills, job search techniques, resume writing skills and connections with education partners and employers.
Read a success story from a client who accessed our services in 2013:
After a painful divorce in June 2013 from a man who was abusive physically, emotionally and mentally, I arrived in Calgary with nothing. I was broken, in pain and filled with terror and confusion. I suffered nightmares and severe panic attacks.
However, over the following five months, the incredible staff of the YWCA Mary Dover House and Vermilion Energy/YWCA Employment Resource Centre (ERC) supported and nurtured me back to believe in myself again. I grew to believe that I could not only “embrace this desert” of my life but that indeed, I was strong and capable and intelligent and resilient enough to soar into my prosperous future!
The ERC staff provided expert guidance and resources to help me define my talents, skills and a career path. They were always kind, patient, encouraging and practical.
As a result, in November 2013, I was hired to work with an international chain of restaurants in sales and marketing, event planning and business development.
I am also moving into my own apartment.
So, you can see why I am so grateful to have had this “refuge” to begin the process of healing and building a new “me.”
Thank you to all the staff for the gift of hope!
A quote I live by:
“Never let your past experiences harm your future. Your past can’t be altered and your future doesn’t deserve the punishment.”
